The Freely Project is an organisation that advocates the promotion of Linux and Open Source Software:
The Freely Project was setup for the advocacy and encouragement of Open Source Software (OSS) and Linux usage within churches and Christian organisations. Members of the project have a range of technical abilities and denominations.
There is also a useful link on why open source software is particularly appropriate for churches called, Why Churches? This I will be forwarding to the leaders at my church.
Our church only has one computer and no permanent staff apart from the Pastor and his wife, but when we look at software and computers again I will certainly be looking at Linux.

Update: I have found this article (linked to by The Freely Project) which gives some further background to these thoughts. Showing that there has been more thought into this than I previously realised.
