Any gathering of people gives the opportunity for evangelism. So why not the Cricket World Cup? (Christianity Today). After all, it is the 3rd biggest sporting event in the world (after the football world-cup and the Olympic games).
The Caribbean Baptist Fellowship (CBF), one of the six regional bodies of the Baptist World Alliance (BWA), has said that it views the Cricket World Cup as an opportunity for evangelism and ministry.
CBF is also setting up prayer tents that allow volunteers to minister one-on-one to the thousands visiting the area.
I have been enjoying the Cricket that is taking place in recent weeks (or is it months now?), even if it has only been via cricinfo, Radio 4 LW and late TV highlights. Of course watching England is somewhat painful, but they will probably be put out of their misery soon, and we can go to hope at least some of the teams run Australia close.

Hey, we Americans have been doing this for a long time. This type of evangelism is represented by a cultural icon. He wears a rainbow wig and waves a big sign saying JOHN 3:16 at the camera! No, but seriously if you want to catch a lot of fish, fish where there are a lot of fish, seems we have spent a great deal of energy trying to figure out how to get them to jump in the boat here lately.

as a Baptist, this post brings a smile to my face. i’m a Texas Baptist and we’re part of the Baptist World Alliance as well. i love hearing stories about how Baptists are carrying out the Great Commission where they are.
quick story. i played cricket once. some kids taught me how to play in Sri Lanka. we played in a field that had been devastated by the tsunami. it took ten minutes for me to slip and fall and cut my leg wide open. the kids thought it was funny watching the Texan try to play cricket. i had a blast. we probably played for several hours.
i’ll never forget doing that. i have a Sri Lanka cricket jersey and wear it every once in a while just to remind me to pray for the country.
