Kinetic Church is a church in Atlanta Georgia (USA) and meets in a movie theatre. Each week they set up everything for church and then take it down again and put it into a trailer. One week they had their stuff stolen. They made a really nice response that showed grace and a true Christ-like response. Here’s the link if you want to see it. Really cool. They even invited the person that stole their stuff to come to their church.
The church received a donation from a local company to put up billboards around the town. The billboards read the following:
The term ‘ballsy’ got a lot of attention but so did their methodology. They received a lot of accolades as well as a lot of criticism mostly from the local Christian community.
This has been discussed a lot on the blogs when it happened a few months ago. But now I come to you with the question: what would your church do? And it’s a good exercise to think about.
I think a lot of churches would view themselves as a victim and soak up the attention and the tragedy. I think it’s similar to the way that a lot of Christians would respond: poor me. But how are we supposed to respond?

church is in Concord, NC, not ATL, GA. (wish they were here, though, I wanted to attend).

I love their approach. I think it’s always best to be relevant! Bill boards can be the shock factor that gets people’s attention!

I personally see nothing wrong with it at all. It is not as if they used “foul” language and they made a good point.

I was impressed with the video clip on You Tube. I was fascinated by the concept of putting a disposal phone in an area that the thief would have known. I would hope that the attitude of forgiveness would impact a lot of people.

It strikes me that they are using vulgar language in an effort to self promote and gain attention, much like a Howard Stern type might.

Overall I think it was a great move on their part. I really question the need to refer to testicles in the ad though. For some reason using crude terminology seems to be the “in” thing in some churches today.

Wow their video almost made me cry. That is a huge amount of forgiveness, I hope one day I COULD DO THE SAME IN THAT KIND OF SITUATION.

I like the message and the fact they have not reacted in a classic victim sense. Perhaps one word could have been used in its place, gutsy?
I hope they get their trailer back or can replace with help from the community. Soldier on!

I think it was great. Kudos to Kinetic. Alternatives to “ballsy” – try gutsy!

Nice story of Kinetic church. There are hundreds of such. But what is it good for if they origin in the Catholic church? Never thought of that? Here is it well explained: http://barnabasnagy.com/2009/05/28/all-protestant-denominations-are-branches-of-the-catholic-church/

Want to get the word out about your church? Register at http://www.MyChurchList.net and put your church in the directory with a free Basic listing. Then let everyone know that you’re in the My Church List directory.
This allow followers to find a church to attend in their own hometown or in cities all across the US when they’re traveling, after a move, or even when they just want to see what other churches are out there.

Truthfully as expressions become more common in our language, the original meaning is lost over time. This church knows one of the secrets of advertising, which is grabbing your audience’s attention by the (you get the pun) and not letting them forget your message for a very long time. Whether or not the message follows tradition isn’t relevant, but it is important that the expression follow their beliefs. As an example, Christ broke every tradition of Judaism because of his purpose to establish a new order of spiritual knowledge.

Cheap Church Websites
Our churches insurance would have covered the stolen equipment. I doubt we would put up billboards…

Interesting article, if anyone wants to know about church management software. . I work for Congregation Builder . We provide web based software. Web based software allows you to share the work load. Software allows us to be in touch with church & we can be connected to the other members also anywhere anytime from laptop, notebook, iPod, & iPad.
